Zeljanica is a delicious phyllo pie filled with spinach and cheese, a classic comfort food enjoyed across Bosnia, Serbia, and Montenegro.

Ingredients:

 

  • 400 g spinach, chopped
  • 200 g feta or cottage cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 8 sheets phyllo pastry
  • 3 tbsp oil or melted butter
  • Salt and pepper

 

Method:

 

  1. Mix spinach, cheese, eggs, salt, and pepper.
  2. Brush phyllo sheets with oil; layer 2–3 sheets in a baking dish.
  3. Spread some filling, then layer more sheets. Repeat until done.
  4. Brush top with oil and bake at 190Β°C for 35–40 minutes.
  5. Serve warm or at room temperature.
